This artist is definitely a
name on the URock Tour to look out for and his name is Big Gov. While already performing at many shows, Big
Gov was referred to the URock tour through Prez management. The URock Tour
gives unsigned artist an opportunity to showcase their talent also with
mainstream artist. Artist also can have an opportunity to receive a record deal
from a major label. Big Gov is definitely on the roster for representing his
hometown Detroit on a big scale. When
asked what he expects from being a part of this tour, he replied, “I hope to
expand my fan base, want to touch every region and it’s not just about me but
also the team.” Says Big Gov. Big Gov has displayed his character is not just about
self but bringing others along, and that paints a picture of being a true
artist.
Since the early age of five, Hip-hop has been
a huge part of Big Gov’s life. Being
born and raised in Detroit, Michigan he depicts his struggles and street
tactics through conveying his life in his music. Music was something that he
never chose he was born into it, his father was a singer and a host of his
cousins were also very involved in music. He’s an artist, a lyricist and a producer
which gives him the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of the
production of his music. In an exclusive
interview he shares some personal life experiences through the Loss of his
mother in 2005 to a battle with cancer, his children and God being the greatest
inspiration behind his music. Never
completely satisfied musically and personally Big Gov has no plans of stopping
soon, His mom once told him, “Don’t use me as an excuse to quit doing what you
love to do just keep doing what you’re doing.” Through her words he keeps going
against all odds and continuing on his life journey through his music. Big Gov
describes his Life Journey in these distinct words, struggle, grind, pain,
progress and success. His music will
give his fans an opportunity to have a sense of connection with him. With his Debut solo album release, “The Debt
Collector” distributed by Island/Def Jam, when asked the inspirations behind
this album he replied “it’s to let everyone know that he also is representing
his city and to receive his props for it.
What sets his music apart
from other artist is his lyrics come from the heart, if you listen to it you
will get to experience his life journey and a distinct style that can’t be duplicated.
Big Gov doesn’t label his music under a certain style his music is versatile
with an East and West Coast appeal. His
music has been played on MTV’s Rob & Big, Yo-Momma comedy show and the hit
TV series “Runs House.” Some of his music influences are Jay-Z, Nas, KRS- One,
2Pac Shakur, Rakim, Dr. Dre and Pete Rock. His Latest Project “No More Mr. Nice
Gov” The fans should expect on this album for me to be a little harder and it
has an aggressive approach to it.” Says Big Gov, the album has 23 tracks and it
can be found on iTunes and also on the Android Market. He has also been working on several songs
with artist Pinky XXX be on the lookout for that project coming soon. Big Gov has had collaborations with major
artists due to his acting debut in feature film “Envy” with AZ, Ray J, Chico
Debarge, Lisa Raye and Maia Campbell to name a few. He states the film limited
him because people felt as if the role he played was all that he could do. Big Gov states that right now in this state of
his career he has no present plans of doing collaborations with major artist
due to his main focus of working with artist from his hometown and continuing
to build a buzz for Detroit. When he
hits the stage during this tour there is no doubt that he will grab the attention
of thousands through his energy and lyrics of his music.
